Customer Reviews

great product, easy to install

I have two Gene garage door openers, one I installed about a year ago. It was a belt drive. I just installed the second one on the other door this week. It is virtually the same, except this one is a chain drive (our garage is not attached to the house so I wasn't concerned about noise). I found that the instruction manual was excellent, and very easy to follow. The total installation time was about 4 hours for each (plus a little time for prepping the support system). The craziest thing was that when I was all finished and ran them side by side, the chain drive was actually quieter than the belt. Go figure.

Not bad at all

Installation was easier than I thought (except that I had to make adjustment on my existing bracket).
It opens my 7 by 16 door without problem and it is very quiet for a chain drive.
I was a bit skeptical due to its low price but I am quite happy with this product.

I had some problem with my remote but the customer support did an excellent job at solving it. Who knew that the wall button pushed into the wall with brute force would cause problem to the remote? The phone support was one of the best I experienced in the last 5 years (compared to my TV cable, internet, phone, etc.) Systematic and get-to-the-point approach. 5 stars for that part.

Questions & Answers

i have a two car garage (2 doors) built into the home, so there is a finished 2nd floor over the garage. there is some space between the garage door and the finished ceiling, but not the usual open space a garage has. what is the minimum clearance needed between the garage door and the ceiling to install the openers.

The included rail assembly works for 7ft high doors (standard). These rails mount on the side walls, with a mounting bracket on the ceiling directly above the garage door. The Genie opener uses it's own bracket which mounts freely from the door rails. Some adjustments can be made to guide the rolled up doors in a safe position, but some maodification may be required, or special brackets may be needed per your application. Because you have a non-standard spplication, we recommend consulting a garage door contactor near you to make sure that the doors will open safety using this opener.

For you convenience, I have added in the additional images above a visual diagram of the garage door system for installation and reference. I have also added a link to the Owner's Manual for more information above.
