How to shop for Water Heater Timers

We always like to say that a water heater timer can solve many problems that might exist in your household today. In fact, a water heater timer is the answer to your prayers. Why? Well, as you may already know, the months of November, December and January are the highest for electrical bills. Some customers have faced a surge in electricity bills, and they have started to consider buying water heater timers. As the heater are the highest energy-consuming appliances at any house, buying a water heater time will help you to save big bucks.

Homeowners are used to spending over $400 per year on electrical costs every year. As the electricity rates continue to rise, finding ways how you can save on electricity seem a pretty legitimate deal. It is a fact, an average brand of water heaters are made to heat gallons of water daily. It doesn’t matter if you use them or not. You may be asleep or at work, the water heaters continue to heat the water regardless of its use. This results in high utility bills. In order to cut back on your electricity costs, it is time to consider buying a water heater timer.

How does it work?

  • A water heater timer is a device that sets the water heater on and off at the set time. It allows having full control over the water heater during the different times of the day. Water heater timer plays an important role as an energy saving factor.
  • Think about it for a second. The hot water in your household is needed when you take the shower, do the dishes or do the laundry. At the same time, the water heater boils the water 24 hours a day. A water heater timer allows the water heater to heat the water only 4 hours a day. As a result, you can save up to 15% of energy daily.

How to install a Hot Water Heater Timer?

  • Mount the timer case to a wall. Use the screws. Use a drill to make pilot holes and attach the timer case in its place.
  • Proceed with turning off the breaker of your water heater.
  • Remove a top plate on the top of water heater. This will reveal its power cord. Use the cord’s threads to put them into the knockout hole on the case bottom.
  • Proceed with running a No.10 wire from the timer case to the water heater. Make sure to match the color-coded wires.
  • Place the timer back in its case. Attach the corresponding wire straight to the timers’ lugs. Tighten the screws.
  • Flip the water heater breaker back on.
  • Set the timer to turn the water heater on and off.
