Mine were already tested in a real incident.

I installed six of these two days ago. Yesterday got a call from my wife telling me they had been awake by the carbon monoxide alert. The car was running in the garage, probably because of the remote been pressed by something in her bag. The voice alert for CO sounded in all rooms; she took the kids outside and opened all doors and windows. I would definitively recommend this alarm.

    Easy to install; works great

Replaced my smoke detectors with these units; easy to install; like the fact I can turn it off for a false alarm like when cleaning the oven which produces some smoke. I feel safer knowing it detects both smoke and carbon monoxide. Being able to change the battery on the outside is better too. Mounting it to the ceiling is also easier; my old ones had plastic hooks that protruded from the ceiling, one of which broke off when I replaced the battery and tried to reattach it. This unit is designed differently and seem less likely to break plus, given the battery is accessible without removing it, I won't have to remove it.

We have been in our new home for 10 months. This type of smoke alarm was installed by our electrician, but we were never received a user manual - and I am unable to print one with the tab on your web page. (does not work) Today, the alarms all went off saying "fire". We have no fire, could not get them off. Unplugged them all and later tried to put them back up in case we had a fire in the night , but the alarm for "fire" will not stop. we don't know what to do! Please advise!!

Contact the manufacture. They can provide a manual for your items and they can trouble shoot the items to determine the problem.Kidde 800-880-6788

Is this a good alarm to replace are fireX alarm in the kitchen. When ever we cook a big meal it is constantly alarming. It wired through out the house.

Depending on the model f smoke alarm you have currently will depend on the model you will replace it with. You do not need a carbon alarm in the kitchen so if you wanted to just do a basic smoke alarm there that would be fine.
