How to Shop for Pex Fittings
Pex fittings are tools and essentials elements of pex tubing systems that ensure connection from pex tubing to pex tubing and manifolds or from pex tubing to various metal tubing and fixtures. Therefore, pex fixtures involve a wide collection of different pex tubing components that are made from a flexible, durable and strong material such as pex (cross-linked polyethylene), in addition to brass, copper or stainless steel. Pex tubing and fittings are the best solution for residential and commercial potable water supply as they are corrosion resistant, environmentally friendly and are much easier to install than other types of plumbing systems.
There are various kinds of pex fittings such as elbows, reducers, end caps, adapters, tees, straight couplings and unions that differ by size, diameter, bend radius and applications. In addition, the fittings can be of different styles, such as propex, compression or sharkbite connection principles.
Propex, or expansion style fittings are most popular tools that represent the standard connection method. These fittings are available in brass and cross-linked polyethylene and they can be used for pex-al-pex connection. They require special tools such as a copper crimp ring and expander that is placed outside the tubing while the fitting is placed inside. Special tools should be used subsequently to tighten the ring over the tube. This method ensures the tightest and the most reliable connection and it allows minimizing the number of tubing system connections required.
Compression fittings don’t require any special tools; therefore they are the best solution for small, not complicated or one-time projects and can be easily used by any handyman for household applications. A common compression fitting consists of a compression insert, a compression ring and a compression nut. These fittings can be installed by means of wrenches of concealed type or a pair of pliers. An insert should slide inside the tubing while a nylon ring and a nut are placed over the tubing and tightened by wrenches.
Sharkbite connections are based on the pull-push principle, it needs no special tools and it is the simplest way of pex pipe installations. These fitting come with grab rings equipped by small teeth that grip the tube tightly and o-ring protector that aligns the pipe. The pipe passes through the fitting, grab ring and o-ring protector that is subsequently compressed tightly between the fitting and the pipe in order to establish a solid connection.
Any of these fitting types will provide users with cost efficient ease of use. Not only that, these products can be installed easily, they are maintenance and energy efficient and they are on sale at Westside Wholesale for low affordable rates!
